IDYE to RID 3140 (Mumbai) was my first youth exchange program. It was an unforgettable
experience to be hosted by the distinguished Rotaractors of RID 3140. I was sent to Mumbai in a team comprising of 5 members,
namely:
Rtr.Amit (Team Leader) - ROTARACT CLUB OF TRIPUNITRA
Rtr.Arun Stephen Paul - ROTARACT CLUB OF COCHIN EAST
Rtr.Sandeep.U.S (Myself) - ROTARACT CLUB OF BISHOP APPASAMY
CAS
Rtr.Nithyanandhan - ROTARACT CLUB OF PARK COLLEGE
Rtr.Arjun - ROTARACT CLUB OF COIMBATORE MAJESTIC
Even before we could get
down at the Mumbai junction, we were welcomed to the district 3140 by the efficient Rotaractor from the district at Kalyan
– Rtr.Naman Patel (President of Rotaract club of Kalyan). That clearly delineated what kind of Rotaraction was
happening in the district.
Rtr.Prasanna
(IPP of Rotaract club of Thane Hills) was readily awaiting our arrival at the junction. We then proceeded to his residence.
We took rest for some time and were served good lunch. We also exchanged our club letterhead and club flag.
We then met Rtr.Monaz (From Rotaract club of Thane Town Wings) at her
residence where we had the privilege of meeting most of the members of their club who had come there to meet us. That was
our first interactive session at Mumbai. We talked not only about Rotaraction in our respective districts, but also about
our personal life and thus became very good friends. They took us to many places in Mumbai which included many shopping malls,
restaurants and much more places worth seeing.
Next day Rtr.Naman from Rotaract club of Kalyan, along with his members met
us and took us to Titwada temple and also to their parent Rotary meeting where we were greatly honored with bouquets, mementos
ect. It was a great experience to be a part of the Rotary meeting from other districts.
The next day we met Rtr.Jagadeesh (President of Rotaract club of V.P.M’s
College) and we (especially I) had the golden opportunity to be a part of the club meeting of a campus based club. It was
so enthusiastic to interact with Rotaractors of V.P.M’s College. They also presented to us a royal feast to our ears
by playing guitar and also singing songs. It was just an amazing blend of music & voice.
Next what we got was a Red-Carpet welcome by Rotaract club of Mumbai Ghatkopar.
We were garlanded, put thilak and taken aarathi which made us feel as if we were the “Star of the day”. Rotaract
club of Mumbai Ghatkopar under the dynamic presidentship of Rtr.Sachin Ruparel, is definitely one of the
best clubs of RID 3140. It was very much clear by their professional approach in official meetings and their very friendly
approach otherwise. We had some of our memorable moments with the members of Rotaract club of Mumbai Ghatkopar.
Finally we were hosted by Rotaract club of Deonar, which we had known to be
one of the most professional clubs in the district. That was proved right by that club members under the leadership of Rtr.Ravikiran
Apte (President). He took us out to many places in his car even during the crowded evening of “Ganesh Visharjan”.
We were able to see the real crowd of Mumbai on that day. We also had the chance to mingle and interact with the members of
Rotaract club of Mumbai Chembur West, which was lead by a very cool and eminent leader Rtr.Archana Thakur who hosted
us for the dinner that night.
Next day we witnessed the ‘District Anthaakshari’ of RID 3140.
During that time we could meet a lot of energetic Rotaractors of the district.
We also met Rtr.Veena (District Rotaract Representative of RID 3140).
She spoke well and also presented to us, her district lapel pins.
Those days were Golden moments for us worth to be treasured for a life time.
I (Rtr.Sandeep.U.S) truly dedicate the sweet memories of this IDYE tour (to RID
3140 - Mumbai) to Rtr.IPP.Vijaykrishna (IDYE Chairman) for arranging this Youth Exchange program and also to all the
club members who hosted us in the best possible ways.
